Lovely Hostess Gifts & Holiday Party Etiquette

With Christmas parties in full swing, we wanted to take a moment to share hostess gift ideas and a few party tips ahead of the weekend (so you have plenty of time to grab a gift or two with a couple of days to spare!). We think that there are few things better than giving a hostess gift when someone opens their home for the holidays — and it certainly doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. A simple gesture to thank a hostess for all they’ve done to prepare means so much.

But other than arriving with a gift in hand, there are a few tips for being a gracious holiday guest that are good to keep in mind. Read our 5 Tips on Being a Gracious Holiday Guest here, and then be sure to read Tidings of Good Christmas Etiquette, too! Former White House Social Secretary Lea Berman shared her tips and thoughts on holiday party etiquette with us a few years ago, and they certainly stand the test of time! She also shared a few hostess gift ideas with us, too.

Speaking of hostess gifts, shop our Hostess Gift Guide for plenty of ideas at all price points! And read below for some highlights from our guide.

A great hostess gift idea in the $30 range is this monogrammed wine bottle chiller from Well Bowed. Just add a monogram for a thoughtful customized gift! And of course a bottle of her favorite red or white wouldn’t hurt either.

You can never have enough festive drinkware when you’re hosting at the holidays, and we love these Natalie Chang styrofoam cups for every occasion. They are a reader favorite year after year! They can be used for friend gatherings or for car rides to look at Christmas lights — and are perfect for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day festivities! Natalie Chang’s napkins would be a perfect hostess gift, too. See all of her cute Christmas gifts here!

For the mahjong loving hostess, you can’t go wrong with a set of these fun guest towels! She’ll love displaying these in her guest bath on game nights — just pair with a bottle of wine for a gift that’ll make her smile big time. And be sure to use code DSG15 for 15% off!

This Honey & Hank Christmas Wreath Serving Platter is one of our favorite hostess gifts right now — pair it with a bottle of wine, or gift on its own! It’s a unique $50 gift, is beautifully designed, and hostesses will love using it year after year. We love Honey & Hank’s tea towels for hostess gifts, too! Really anything on their site would make a lovely gift!

Lucy Grymes’ darling wine bags take the classic bottle of wine hostess gift to the next level — and you can get this set of 6 for just $16! These are great to have on hand for last-minute hostess gifts, and we love topping them with the popular jingle bell bottle openers. Use code DOSAYGIVE15 for 15% off at checkout!

Speaking of fabulous customized gifts, you can’t go wrong with anything from Audrey Durden. All of her acrylic designs can be personalized — from beverage tubs to napkin holders, to the cutest $10 catch-all trays — and these slate serving boards are perfect for charcuterie nights.

And finally, you can’t go wrong with any of the lovely Vietri items. This Lastra casserole is beautiful and timeless! Something any hostess would love to use on Christmas morning! Their coordinating coffee mugs are another great hostess gift when paired with gourmet hot chocolate.

Like we mentioned, a nice bottle of wine is always a welcome hostess gift at the holidays! Read our post on how to dress up a bottle of wine to make it a touch more special here. We also created a holiday cocktail gift (with the most delicious spiced simple syrup recipe included) that would be simple to recreate. Read that here — it’s a fabulous and inexpensive gift idea that looks high end!
